Prince Lateef Fagbemi, the Federation’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has attested to the return of more over $110 million in assets that were retrieved from several nations.
This was disclosed by Prince Fagbemi before the House of Representatives Committee on Justice during a budget defense session. The minister clarified that in order to assist some state governments with contract reviews, the ministry has created a template for the majority of agreements and shared it with them.

Speaking on the ruling against the government, Prince Fagbemi noted that the “popular case of P&ID” involved numerous problems, including hiring lawyers who were not qualified for the job.
Although state governments are free to conduct business internationally, Mr. Fagbemi emphasized that the national government has the responsibility for such matters and pointed out that subnational governments are not recognized in the event of arbitration.
In addition to expressing dissatisfaction with the minister’s failure to provide a breakdown of the fund, including the 52.88 million dollars in recovered assets linked to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Olumide Osoba, the chairman of the House Committee on Justice, also scowled at the ministry’s failure to provide information on how the 4.7 billion naira that was allegedly spent on legal services was being used.
The committee further charged that the ministry had usurped the parliament’s authority by using the funds authorized for the fiscal year 2024 for purposes not authorized by the parliament without following the proper procedures.
