Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has said his administration has not taken any fresh loans since he assumed office, despite paying about ₦6.7 billion monthly to service debts inherited from previous administrations.

Sani disclosed this on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he explained how his government had managed the state’s finances amid increased revenue. He attributed the decision not to borrow to prudent financial management and careful prioritisation of government projects.

“Since I became governor, I’ve not borrowed with one kobo,” Sani said. He added, “It’s about being prudent. It’s about selecting or being very careful in where you invest the money.”

The governor also highlighted his administration’s interventions in agriculture, education, infrastructure, skills development and security, saying the state had continued to execute projects despite the financial burden of servicing inherited debts.

On education, Sani disclosed that a household-mapping exercise identified about 550,000 out-of-school children across Kaduna State. He said more than 300,000 children have already been returned to classrooms, with efforts ongoing to reach the remaining children.

According to him, the government is relying on data generated from the mapping exercise to identify affected children and target interventions more effectively, rather than depending solely on estimates.
