Lagos State Deputy Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Babatunde Gbadamosi, has explained why he accepted to run as the running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, in the 2027 election.

Gbadamosi said his decision was motivated by his belief that younger Nigerians should be given opportunities to lead, rather than being continually told they are “leaders of tomorrow.” He cited Nigeria’s political history, including Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s leadership of the Western Region in his early 40s and Mobolaji Johnson, who became Lagos State’s first military governor at 31.

According to him, young leaders can deliver effectively when supported by experienced advisers. He described Rhodes-Vivour, who is in his early 40s, as someone whose “energy of youth meets the wisdom of experience,” adding that he remains convinced that the younger politician has the skills needed to lead Lagos.

Gbadamosi urged Lagos residents to support the ADC ticket, while accusing the state’s political establishment of 27 years of poor governance and failing to adequately protect the future of young people.

“The time for the youths to lead is NOW, not tomorrow,” he declared, urging residents who want to “Make Èkó Great Again” to join the Rhodes-Vivour-Gbadamosi campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
