NAFDAC Disowns Viral List Of Fake Products
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has disowned a viral social media list claiming to identify fake, adulterated and substandard products in Nigeria, urging Nigerians to stop circulating the unverified information.
The agency made the clarification in Abuja on Thursday through its resident media consultant, Olusayo Akintola, stressing that it must conduct investigations, collect product samples and carry out laboratory tests before declaring any product unsafe or below regulatory standards.

NAFDAC explained that official alerts concerning falsified, adulterated or substandard products contain relevant details to help the public identify affected products and understand the regulatory action taken. It added that such announcements are issued through its recognised communication channels.
The agency warned that the names or photographs of products appearing on social media do not, on their own, prove that the products are fake or dangerous. It urged consumers to disregard the circulating list and avoid sharing it further, noting that unverified claims could cause unnecessary fear and confusion.
NAFDAC reiterated that allegations about product safety must be supported by investigations and scientific evidence before official conclusions can be reached. Consumers are advised to rely on the agency’s verified channels for product safety alerts and regulatory updates.
