Pep Guardiola Set For Emotional Man City Return Against PSG

Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is set to return to the Etihad Stadium for the first time since leaving the club when City host Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 14.

According to BBC Sport, Guardiola is expected to watch the match from the stands, marking his first visit to the stadium since ending his decade-long spell as Manchester City manager at the end of last season.

Guardiola’s return comes as Manchester City continues to deal with the fallout from its long-running financial case involving 115 Premier League charges. An independent commission found the club guilty of most of the alleged breaches relating to the period between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.

Manchester City has appealed the commission’s findings and has continued to deny wrongdoing. Guardiola has also publicly maintained his support for the club’s ownership and leadership despite the verdict.

The Spanish manager left City after a hugely successful 10-year tenure during which he won six Premier League titles, including four consecutive league championships. He also guided the club to its first Champions League triumph, alongside three FA Cups and five League Cups.

Guardiola had previously said he would remain committed to Manchester City even if the financial case resulted in relegation. His return to the Etihad is therefore expected to be a notable moment for both the manager and supporters.

City will face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday before returning to Manchester to take on reigning European champions PSG three days later.
