The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports that it has commenced a fresh nationwide voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the Commission, “The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a fraudulent website currently circulating online, falsely claiming that INEC has announced a new date for Nationwide Online Voter Registration from 28 September 2026 to 27 October 2026.”

INEC warned members of the public not to click on the fraudulent link or submit personal information through the website, noting that doing so could expose sensitive data to unauthorised harvesting or misuse.

The Commission further clarified that the voter registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026, and that claims of a new nationwide online registration exercise through the circulating website are false.

INEC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify electoral information through its official communication channels before acting on announcements shared online.

The Commission also advised the public to disregard the fraudulent website and rely only on information issued through INEC’s official channels.
