Adeleke Reaffirms Commitment To War Against Drug Abuse In Osun

Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse among youths, pledging continued government support for the Imole War Against Drug Abuse, IWADA, initiative.
Governor Adeleke made the pledge during a courtesy visit by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, the Federal Ministry of Federal Affairs, and 30 secondary school students at the Exco Lounge, Government Secretariat, Osogbo.
Expressing delight at the progress of the IWADA programme, the governor said the initiative had transformed many young lives across the state. He described it as a mission to safeguard the future of youths and students from the destructive effects of drug abuse.
“This project is close to my heart. I see it not just as a programme but as a mission to secure the future of our youths. Drug abuse destroys health, families, and dreams,” Adeleke said.
He commended the NDLEA for its courage and commitment in tackling the menace and lauded the Ministry of Federal Affairs for its steady collaboration with the state government.
While urging the NDLEA to intensify its operations across Osun’s borders and communities to prevent the inflow of illicit substances, the governor assured that his administration would continue to provide logistical and institutional support to the IWADA campaign.
“Let us ensure that our state is not used as a passage for illicit drugs. We must protect our young people from these dangerous influences,” he said.

“Together, we can raise a generation free from drug abuse and make our state a beacon of hope, health, and prosperity for others to emulate,” he added.
The Imole War Against Drug Abuse (IWADA) is a state-led campaign aimed at promoting drug-free lifestyles among youths through education, sensitization, and community engagement in collaboration with relevant federal agencies.

Earlier, the Zonal Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, representing Osun and Oyo States, Barrister John Omotosin , had commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for his proactive efforts in the fight against drug abuse through the Imole War Against Drug Abuse, IWADA, initiative.
Barrister Omotosin praised Adeleke’s inclusive approach in reaching out to the most vulnerable members of society, describing the IWADA initiative as a beacon of light, protection, and hope.
He noted that the Governor’s commitment reflects true leadership focused on prevention rather than rehabilitation, adding that the collaboration with the NDLEA is already yielding visible results.
Barrister Omotosin emphasized the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals and communities, stressing that prevention remains both more effective and more affordable than cure.
He expressed gratitude to the Osun State Government and the Ministry of Federal Affairs for their strong partnership with the agency, noting that a total of 5,079 students across various schools in Osun State have benefited from the NDLEA’s enlightenment programmes.
He described the effort as a remarkable step toward safeguarding the future of young people and curbing the menace of substance abuse in the state.
