Suspected bandits on Thursday evening invaded Yaru community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State in an alleged attempt to kidnap the Oniyaru of Yaru. The attack was foiled by a combined team of local hunters, vigilantes and military personnel.

Security sources said the heavily armed attackers stormed the community with the apparent aim of abducting the traditional ruler but were forced to retreat after encountering stiff resistance. Two residents sustained injuries during the attack.

The failed kidnap attempt has left many residents frightened. The attackers fled after they were confronted by hunters, vigilantes and soldiers deployed to the area.

The incident occurred barely two days after another suspected bandit attack in the nearby Gaa Ogele community, where three people were reportedly kidnapped, heightening concerns over growing insecurity in parts of Ifelodun Local Government Area.

Residents have expressed fear over the increasing activities of suspected bandits in the area.
