According to Femi Falana, a human rights attorney, the Court of Appeal has decided that Kano State can only have one emir, and the 16th Emir of Kano has decided to remain in office in spite of the difficulties. Falana revealed this in a widely shared video during Chief Gani Fawehinmi’s 21st Memorial Lecture in Lagos.

But as lawyers, we have some fundamental facts to remind ourselves of while we are gathered here. We would want to congratulate you on your Court of Appeal triumph, Your Majesty.

“Your opponents claim they will take the case to the Supreme Court, but the statute is unquestionably in place, and the NBA must step in at this point.”It has been established that the conventional institution is not a question of fundamental rights in cases where the law has been determined. Therefore, you cannot declare that you would uphold your fundamental rights in court as a traditional monarch.

Second, the court has stated that chieftaincy cases are outside the Federal High Court’s jurisdiction. Therefore, the NBA has an obligation to step in and call our colleagues to order if some of them are misleading their clientele and creating issues for the nation.

“Your Majesty, you are here to stay, regardless of where they go—to the Supreme Court or wherever else. Additionally, Kano can only have one emir. We cannot have two speakers in Rivers and two emirs in Kano. Falana said, “This uncertainty must end.
