Former Ogun State governorship aspirant and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, has strongly denied allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, that she left the APC because she was denied financial compensation.

The political disagreement between the two prominent politicians has intensified ahead of the 2027 Ogun State general elections, with both sides exchanging accusations over events that led to Obasanjo’s exit from the ruling APC.

Adeola had alleged that Obasanjo abandoned the APC after he refused to refund the money she reportedly spent during her unsuccessful governorship campaign. He further claimed that after failing to secure financial support from him, she turned to the PDP governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu.

However, Obasanjo has dismissed the allegations, describing the senator as “a liar” who lacks integrity.

Responding to the allegations in a statement, Obasanjo insisted she never personally demanded any refund from Adeola.

According to her, the requests made during their last political meeting came from members of her political team, not from her directly.

She explained that her supporters presented three requests to the APC governorship candidate, including support for a Senate seat, reimbursement of campaign expenses, and the inclusion of her political loyalists in his campaign structure.

Obasanjo stated that Adeola neither fulfilled any of the requests nor provided feedback after the meeting.

She also claimed that after she eventually resigned from the APC, the senator repeatedly tried to reach her and even allegedly offered her money to remain in the party.

Obasanjo Questions Adeola’s Integrity

The former Ogun State Commissioner for Health questioned the consistency of Adeola’s position.

According to her, if the request for campaign reimbursement was truly insulting, there would have been no reason for him to continue contacting her after she left the APC.

She maintained that his alleged attempt to persuade her with money contradicted his public claims.

Obasanjo said the requests were presented by three members of her political team—Hon. Aroyeun, Chief Toyin Jokosenumi, and Hon. Biodun Ajayi—adding that she only informed Adeola that whatever decision he made would be communicated to her supporters.

She emphasized that she never personally demanded any financial settlement from the senator.

Political Tension Ahead of Ogun 2027 Election

The latest exchange further highlights the growing political rivalry ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

Adeola had earlier accused Obasanjo of pursuing personal financial interests rather than public service, alleging that her move to the PDP was motivated by monetary considerations.

Obasanjo, however, maintains that her departure from the APC was based on dissatisfaction with the party’s internal processes and leadership decisions, not financial disagreements.

Her defection to the PDP has strengthened the opposition’s political structure in Ogun State, where she is now contesting for the Ogun Central Senatorial District seat.
