Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua must successfully navigate separate comeback fights this weekend to finally set up what is being billed as the biggest all-British heavyweight clash in boxing history.

Fury returns to the ring today, July 24, against Polish veteran Mariusz Wach in a 10-round contest at the Max Muay Thai Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand. The 37-year-old former world champion faces the experienced 46-year-old, who has lost seven of his last 10 fights. At the weigh-in, Fury came in at 265 pounds, while Wach tipped the scales at 291.4 pounds, giving the Polish fighter a notable weight advantage.

A victory for Fury is expected to pave the way for the much-anticipated showdown with Joshua. The “Gypsy King” returned from retirement in April with a points victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov after suffering consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, and another win would keep plans for the blockbuster fight on course.

Less than 24 hours later, Anthony Joshua will take on Albanian-born heavyweight Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on July 25. The bout will mark Joshua’s first fight since surviving a car crash in Nigeria last December that claimed the lives of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Joshua enters the contest with a 29-4 professional record, including 26 knockouts, while Prenga boasts a 20-1 record, with all 20 of his victories coming by knockout.

Newsworld reports that the contract for the long-awaited Joshua vs. Fury fight has already been signed. However, the agreement will become void if either boxer loses or suffers a serious injury in their respective comeback bouts this weekend. Should Fury defeat Wach, he is expected to travel directly from Thailand to Saudi Arabia for a face-off with Joshua after the latter’s fight.
