In a significant stride toward digital inclusion, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had donated a free broadband Internet service to the Faridah Market located in the Olorunsogo area of Dada Estate, Osun State.
The initiative was facilitated by Hon. Bamidele Salam, the Member representing Ede, Egbedore, and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Newsworld gathered that the broadband facility, already active at the bustling Faridah Market, has become a hub of connectivity, enabling traders, residents, and small business owners in the area to access free high-speed internet.
The development has been widely commended by members of the community, who described it as a timely and beneficial intervention, especially for boosting e-commerce and youth engagement.
A market woman, Mrs. Lilian Onuh and a pepper seller, Kabiru Mohammed expressed their excitement: “We now connect with customers online and do business faster. It has changed the way we operate here. Customers can easily transfer money even when they complain of not having data”
Hon. Salam, known for his community-driven projects, must have been optimistic that the project would empower the people digitally, noting that “Access to the internet is no longer a luxury; it’s a necessity.
While the service has brought joy and utility to the residents, stakeholders have also called for proper maintenance of the facility.
They urged community leaders and market authorities to take ownership of the project and ensure it remains functional for the long term.
“This is a good thing, but we must take care of it so that it won’t be vandalized or misused,” noted Mr. Lekan Odunayo, a reside in the area.
The free broadband installation is part of the NCC’s wider mission to improve digital access across underserved communities in Nigeria.
