The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has called on security agencies to investigate alleged attacks on his wife and two other party candidates in Ibadan.

Alli’s position was contained in a statement signed by the Director of his campaign organisation, Bisi Oladele, and made available to journalists on Thursday. The statement alleged that hoodlums attacked his wife, Mrs Tawakalitu Alli, on Wednesday during a programme at Ibikunle Palace in Ibadan.

The campaign organisation also alleged that the APC candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Remi Oseni, and the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Folake Olunloyo-Oshinlowo, were attacked at separate locations in the city on the same day.

Reacting to the reported incidents, Alli described the alleged attacks as unwarranted and barbaric, urging the Oyo State Government and security agencies to take urgent steps to protect residents and prevent further political violence.

He said Governor Seyi Makinde, as the state’s chief security officer, had a responsibility to ensure the safety of residents irrespective of their political affiliations. Alli also urged security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible for the alleged incidents.

“The SSACO calls on security agencies to fish out these perpetrators of violence and bring them to book in order to serve justice to the victims and also serve as a deterrent to violence in our dear state,” the statement said.

The allegations had not been independently verified in the information available for this report. No response from the Oyo State Government or the security agencies was included in the statement provided.
