Renowned scholar and playwright, Professor Jide Ajidahun of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has announced the release of his latest stage play, titled “Strange Bread”.
Described as a haunting and thought-provoking drama, “Strange Bread” explores the timeless conflict between faith and fear, tradition and conviction.
The play centres on Aderopo, who, in the stillness of the night, is confronted with a ritual offering he once accepted without question. His shocking refusal sets off a gripping spiritual encounter that interrogates appetite, power, sickness, and survival.

Rooted in Yoruba cosmology, African spirituality, and contemporary religious realities, the work delves into unseen battles surrounding what we consume, and what may ultimately consume us.
Prof. Ajidahun, a Professor of Dramatic Literature and Criticism in the Department of English Studies at AAUA, is no stranger to the literary stage. A poet, playwright, and former Head of the Department of Performing Arts, he was a finalist in the 2023 IFLAC World Poetry Peace Contest. His earlier play, “Sunset at Lekki”, was featured in the 2021 Best New African Poets Anthology.
