President Bola Tinubu has announced the operationalisation of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve the military’s response to threats across the country.
Tinubu disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the new formations would position troops closer to communities considered vulnerable to attacks and enable the military to respond more quickly whenever residents come under threat.

“This week, the Nigerian Army @HQNigerianArmy operationalised new formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun. Our troops are now closer to vulnerable communities in these areas, strengthening our ability to respond swiftly and decisively when our people are threatened,” the President said.
The development comes amid the Federal Government’s broader restructuring and expansion of the Nigerian Army in response to persistent security challenges, particularly banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violent crime in parts of the country.
Tinubu also disclosed that the government was fast-tracking the construction of new military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi states, while construction of military facilities in Osun State had already been completed.
“We are also fast-tracking the construction of new barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi, with Osun already completed. As we demand more from our men and women in uniform, we must do more to support them and their families,” he said.
The President said the infrastructure projects were intended not only to improve military capacity but also to enhance the welfare and living conditions of personnel and their families. He also highlighted the recent increase in military salaries, saying the adjustment was already making a difference in the lives of servicemen and women.
“Every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too. As our Armed Forces stand watch over Nigeria, my duty as Commander-in-Chief is to ensure they have the resources and support to do their job, and that Nigeria stands firmly behind the families waiting for them at home,” Tinubu added.
The latest announcement follows Tinubu’s earlier approval for the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions and the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel. The wider restructuring is aimed at decentralising military operations, strengthening command structures and improving response time across different parts of Nigeria.
