The minister disclosed this on Friday during the closing ceremony of a training programme on border control and immigration management at the Immigration Service Headquarters in Abuja. He said retired immigration chiefs previously received pensions of about ₦130,000, describing the amount as inadequate in view of their years of service.

Tunji-Ojo also praised Tinubu for addressing promotion backlogs, improving workers’ welfare and increasing recruitment across agencies under the Ministry of Interior. According to the minister, more than 50,000 personnel under the ministry have received promotions since the President assumed office, while recruitment has also increased. He added that the administration had approved salary increases and improved hazard and special allowances for personnel serving in the affected agencies.

The minister urged personnel under his ministry to reciprocate the government’s support by performing their duties professionally and ensuring Nigerians receive satisfactory services. He said Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda was intended to strengthen public institutions and establish systems that would continue serving the country beyond the President’s tenure. Tunji-Ojo described the administration’s welfare measures as an investment in the future of Nigeria’s public service.
