Tinubu Sets Up National Committee To Drive Implementation Of New Tax Laws

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) to coordinate the rollout of the Federal Government’s newly enacted tax reforms.
According to a State House statement signed by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the committee will be chaired by Mr. Joseph Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
Tegbe brings over 35 years of professional experience to the role, including his previous position as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, will supervise the committee’s activities, while the Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, Mrs Sanyade Okoli, will serve as Secretary.
Other members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai and several seasoned professionals from the public and private sectors.
President Tinubu stressed that the effective implementation of the new Tax Acts is central to his administration’s economic transformation agenda.
He described the reforms as a step toward building “a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that supports economic growth while protecting the interests of citizens and businesses.”

The NTPIC is mandated to conduct extensive consultations with the private sector, professional bodies, state governments and civil society to ensure inclusiveness and broad acceptance of the implementation process. It will also lead public awareness campaigns to educate Nigerians on the new tax laws.
Additionally, the committee is expected to foster strong inter-agency collaboration, harmonise existing tax frameworks with newly enacted statutes, and provide unified oversight throughout the transition period.
Speaking on the committee’s readiness, Tegbe pledged to work closely with stakeholders to build public trust and ensure smooth execution of the reforms.
Finance Minister Wale Edun added that the committee’s formation signals the President’s commitment to resetting the tax system and strengthening the nation’s fiscal policy framework.
The Federal Government expects the NTPIC’s work to bolster revenue mobilisation, reduce leakages and improve accountability, thereby enhancing fiscal sustainability and supporting national development.
