Fresh political tension has emerged in Nigeria’s capital after allegations surfaced that a large campaign fund meant for party activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) may have been mismanaged. The accusation was made by a local party official against the senator representing the FCT in the National Assembly.
The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Omale Sule, has accused Ireti Kingibe of receiving ₦100 million from the party’s national leadership ahead of local government elections in Abuja but failing to deploy the funds for party activities.

Sule made the claim while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, saying the money allegedly released to the senator before the FCT Area Councils’ election was never seen by the local party structure.
The development comes amid an ongoing legal dispute involving the African Democratic Congress and Kingibe’s political affiliation with the party in the capital.

According to Sule, members of the party’s local structure were informed that ₦100 million had been given to the senator by the national leadership of the ADC shortly before the FCT local government election. However, he said no evidence of the funds being used for campaign mobilisation or party activities was observed at the grassroots level.
He stated that the local chapter had no record of receiving any part of the alleged funds. Sule further argued that the senator had little engagement with the party’s grassroots structure in the FCT.
Sule criticized what he described as a lack of communication and collaboration between the senator and the party’s leadership in the territory. According to him, party leaders expect elected officials to maintain close ties with their political structures.
He stressed that even high-ranking public officials usually maintain relationships with their ward structures and party members. In contrast, he claimed the senator rarely attends party meetings or communicates with state-level party leadership.
The ADC chairman insisted that the party’s FCT leadership has struggled to maintain coordination with Kingibe despite her being the party’s only senator representing the territory.
The controversy also follows a legal move by the FCT chapter of the ADC at the Federal High Court Abuja. The party faction is seeking a court order to prevent Kingibe from presenting herself as a member of the ADC amid the internal dispute.
Political observers say the case highlights ongoing tensions within party structures ahead of upcoming electoral activities in the Federal Capital Territory. Internal party disagreements have often played significant roles in shaping political alignments in Nigeria’s capital.
Meanwhile, the senator has not publicly responded to the allegations as of the time of reporting. Analysts suggest that the situation may develop further as the legal proceedings continue and party leadership clarifies the circumstances surrounding the alleged campaign funds.
The unfolding dispute could also influence political dynamics within the FCT, especially as parties prepare for future elections and attempt to strengthen their grassroots structures across the area councils.
