The National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response of the City Boy Movement, Bashir Ahmad, has denied claims that he secured only 16 votes during the 2022 All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election. The issue resurfaced after Afrobeats star David Adeleke (Davido) mocked the former presidential aide in a viral social media post, alleging that Ahmad polled just 16 votes in the contest.

Responding on his official 𝕏 account on Friday, Ahmad described the claim as false, insisting that no credible primary election took place. According to him, the process that produced the party’s candidate was compromised and the figures being circulated did not reflect the outcome of a legitimate exercise. He maintained that if a transparent primary had been conducted, he was confident he would have emerged victorious. Ahmad further claimed that there was verifiable evidence, including videos and other materials, showing that the process was manipulated, although he did not release the evidence alongside his statement.

The APC chieftain urged Davido and others repeating the 16-vote claim to stop presenting it as the result of a credible election, arguing that the figures were misleading and did not reflect a transparent or legitimate primary process. He added that he would reveal the full details surrounding the disputed APC primary at the appropriate time.
