Tragedy Strikes As Man Collapses, Dies During Subhi Prayers In FCT
Medical reports attribute cause of death to high blood pressure
A 52-year-old man, Salihu Byezhe, tragically passed away after collapsing during Subhi (early morning) prayers at a mosque in Gudaba village, located in the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Reports obtained on Friday morning confirmed that the incident occurred on Thursday, as Byezhe participated in prayers following Sahur, the pre-dawn meal observed during Ramadan.

Byezhe Collapsed During Prayers
According to a local resident, Musa Dantani, Byezhe had performed his ablutions and joined other worshippers for Subhi prayers when he suddenly collapsed inside the mosque. Concerned members of the congregation rushed to his aid and transported him to a hospital in Kuje, hoping to save his life.
Sadly, upon arrival at the hospital, medical personnel pronounced him dead, attributing the cause to complications from high blood pressure.
“Prayers were ongoing when he suddenly slumped, and some Muslims inside the mosque quickly held him and conveyed him to the hospital. He was still breathing on the way to the hospital, but unfortunately, he gave up on arriving at the hospital,” Dantani told Daily Trust.
Family in Mourning as Burial Follows Islamic Rites
Tragically, one of Byezhe’s sons was present in the mosque at the time of the incident. He accompanied his father to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his passing.
Reports indicate that the deceased had been suffering from high blood pressure, which may have worsened during the prayer session.
Following Islamic customs, Byezhe’s burial took place at approximately 10:12 AM on Thursday, just hours after his passing. The entire community has been left in mourning, as friends and family pay their respects to the late worshipper.
His sudden death serves as a stark reminder of the importance of health monitoring, especially for individuals with underlying conditions such as high blood pressure.
May his soul rest in peace.
