Nigerian singer Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has revealed that the death of his mother earlier this year was the reason he took a break from music.

The singer disclosed this on Friday while responding to a fan on X (formerly Twitter) who assumed that he had become less active because he was working on a new album.

The fan, @VicroyDominion1, wrote: “I guess the album really made you busy; you had to pause for a while.”

Responding, Kizz Daniel clarified that his absence was not connected to an album project. He said he stepped away from music to grieve his mother’s death and support other members of his family.

“I paused for my Mom, not an album … Lost her this year, but I gotta keep moving for the rest of the family … sorry I came late this year,” the singer wrote.

Kizz Daniel also apologised to his fans for his late return to music activities this year, while recalling other painful losses he has experienced. His father died in 2015, while one of his triplets died in 2021.

The singer had also spoken about the death of his wife’s mother in 2024, linking the experience to the emotions behind his song ‘Al-Jannah’.
