The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the construction of the Abuja City Walk project, a major mixed-use urban development designed to transform the Federal Capital Territory into a modern commercial, residential and recreational hub.

The project, officially launched on behalf of President Bola Tinubu by Vice President Kashim Shettima, is modelled after Dubai’s renowned City Walk and is expected to redefine Abuja’s urban landscape with world-class infrastructure and premium facilities.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Wike disclosed that the FCT Administration had completed all access roads leading to the project site, paving the way for full-scale construction.

Project To Feature Africa’s Tallest Building

A major highlight of the development is a proposed 450-metre skyscraper, which is expected to become the tallest building in Africa upon completion.

The Abuja City Walk will also accommodate a wide range of commercial, retail, hospitality, medical, institutional and luxury residential facilities, creating a vibrant mixed-use destination for residents, businesses and visitors.

The project is expected to stimulate economic growth, attract investments and generate employment opportunities while positioning Abuja as a leading destination for commerce, tourism and leisure.

Nigeria’s Largest Indoor Arena Planned

The development will also feature a 13,000-seat indoor arena, projected to become Nigeria’s largest indoor sports and entertainment facility.

In addition, an arts district covering approximately 12,000 square metres will provide exhibition galleries, cultural centres and performance spaces designed to promote creative industries and cultural tourism.

Developers say the combination of commercial, entertainment and cultural facilities is intended to create a dynamic urban environment capable of supporting business activities and year-round recreational events.

Sustainable Infrastructure At The Core

The Abuja City Walk will incorporate an environmentally sustainable feature known as “The Living Ravine,” an ecological corridor built around a “Sponge District” concept.

The design will utilise wetlands, swales and interconnected green waterways to improve flood management, harvest rainwater and strengthen climate resilience within the development.

The sustainable infrastructure is expected to enhance environmental protection while improving the quality of urban living for residents and visitors.

Representing President Tinubu at the ceremony, Vice President Shettima reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure development as a key driver of economic growth and urban transformation.

Wike, meanwhile, expressed confidence that the Abuja City Walk project would become one of Africa’s most iconic urban developments and further establish the nation’s capital as a world-class city.
