The Kwara State Government has announced the release of 176 residents who were abducted during a deadly attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area on February 3, 2026.

The development was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement on the state government’s official Facebook page, expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security forces, and all stakeholders who contributed to the rescue effort.

The February attack was described as one of the deadliest security incidents in Kwara State, reportedly leaving more than 200 people dead, injuring several others, destroying homes and businesses, and forcing many residents to flee. Local vigilantes who tried to resist were reportedly overwhelmed, with some allegedly trapped and burnt inside their operational office during the attack.

A member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed, representing Gwanabe/Gweria/Bani/Adena Constituency, confirmed the development, saying he was very excited and thanking President Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and security operatives.

As of filing, the government had not disclosed the circumstances surrounding the release or whether any ransom was paid, and security authorities had yet to provide further details on the operation.
