No fewer than 30 people, including women, were killed on Saturday when suspected bandits attacked Kasuwan Daji market in the Demo community of Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the busy market in large numbers, shooting sporadically and causing panic among traders and shoppers, many of whom attempted to flee the scene.

During the attack, the assailants reportedly looted large quantities of food items and other valuables worth millions of naira before setting parts of the market ablaze, destroying stalls and goods.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement, while residents called on the Niger State Government to urgently reinforce security in Borgu and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks.
