The government has given in to the requests of elderly citizens who petitioned Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to prolong their end-of-year bonus. The immediate payment of N20,000 to all pensioners across all strata has been approved by Governor Abiodun. The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, or NUP, confirmed the gesture in a letter to the governor on Wednesday that was jointly signed by its secretary, Bola Lawal, and chairman, Waheed Oloyede. The letter stated that the occurrence was the first of its type in the state’s history.
They urged the governor to accept the ensuing pension modifications in the upcoming year, describing their love for him as “unquantifiable and of real benevolence.” Part of the letter says: “The Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, under the leadership of Comrade W.O. Oloyede, and the entire membership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ogun State Council, hereby applaud and express our heartfelt gratitude to our loving and compassionate Executive Governor, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON, for your kindness and benevolence and for counting us, the elderly Senior Citizens, worthy for the N20,000 bonus across all strata at the end of the year.
“The first time in Ogun State’s history that it has been applied to pensioners.” Your Excellency, who looks at the pensioners’ platforms, offers many compliments, gratitude, and fervent prayers for God’s protection and many blessings for you and your group. You really are amazing. You are both humanist and godly. You have an incalculable and genuinely good-willed love for us, the Elderly. The Executive and the entire Ogun State Pensioners organization are incredibly grateful for your unwavering love, friendship, and godliness for us elderly people.

However, they emphasized that the long-awaited consequential adjustment of pensions would greatly benefit the elderly retired pensioners and asked the governor to accept it. In order to encourage the long-standing elderly retirees to finally *”breathe an air of relief” before the final bell rings, the letter also stated, “Finally, Your Excellency, we are now hopefully assured by your love to us that the actualization of our much-awaited Consequential Adjustment of Pensions would be approved by you in this new year 2025 in no distant time.”
