The Lagos State Chairman of the Accord Party, Dele Oladeji, has dismissed claims that the party has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that no such decision has been taken by the party’s leadership.

Oladeji, who also serves as the Secretary of the Forum of Accord Party Chairmen in Southern Nigeria, described the claim as false, misleading and inconsistent with the official position of the party.

He made the clarification on Sunday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while reacting to remarks attributed to Prof. Christopher Imumolen, who reportedly announced that the Accord Party had thrown its weight behind Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“Accord did not and will not endorse Tinubu for a second term. Any person claiming otherwise is playing politics or engaging in anti-party activities,” Oladeji said.

According to him, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has never discussed or approved any endorsement of President Tinubu since preparations for the 2027 general election commenced.

“Accord has not at any time discussed any endorsement of President Tinubu at any of our NEC meetings. So, there is no basis whatsoever for anybody to claim that Accord has endorsed President Tinubu,” he stated.

Oladeji stressed that only the constitutionally recognised organs of the party possess the authority to take major political decisions, including the endorsement of any presidential candidate.

Oladeji Accuses Imumolen of Misrepresenting the Party

The Accord chairman described Prof. Imumolen’s reported declaration as a personal opinion that does not reflect the position of the party.

He further alleged that Imumolen was merely seeking public attention through what he described as political “shadow boxing.”

“Chris Imumolen is impersonating the Accord presidential candidate and declaring support for President Tinubu is political shadow boxing for media attention,” Oladeji alleged.

He also questioned Imumolen’s membership status in the party, claiming that his name does not appear in the current Accord membership register.

According to Oladeji, the party adopted a new membership register following restructuring by the national leadership in 2023, replacing the previous register.

“His name is not on the Accord membership register, as the register he was on had been phased out,” he claimed.

The Lagos chairman challenged Imumolen to publicly provide evidence that he remains a recognised member of the party.

“If Imumolen claims otherwise, let him publish his Accord membership register and pictures of any NEC meeting attended by INEC officials,” Oladeji added.

Accord Will Field Candidates in 2027

Oladeji reaffirmed that the Accord Party remains committed to contesting all elective positions in the 2027 general election, including the presidency.

He said the party has no intention of supporting the candidate of another political party, arguing that such a move would contradict its own political ambitions.

“Accord candidates will contest every elective position in the country, including the presidential election,” he said.

He added, “Only an unserious person and political party will endorse the candidate of another party. Accord will not do such.”

Oladeji therefore urged party members, supporters and the general public to disregard reports suggesting that the Accord Party had endorsed President Tinubu for another term.

He maintained that the party would remain politically independent and continue to pursue its own programmes, policies and electoral objectives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
