Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has urged labour leaders and government officials to strengthen social dialogue as a means of promoting industrial harmony, workers’ welfare and sustainable economic development in Nigeria.

‎The Governor made the call while declaring open the National Retreat and Workshop of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, JNPSNC, Trade Union Side, held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

‎The retreat, attended by government officials, national and state leaders of the council, as well as trade union representatives from across the country, focused on strategies for advancing workers’ welfare and strengthening industrial relations through constructive engagement.

‎Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke described Nigerian workers as the backbone of the nation’s socio-economic development, commending their immense contributions to national growth and democratic governance.

‎He urged participants to deliberate on issues capable of deepening the relationship between government and workers while fostering industrial peace and improved productivity in the public service.
‎
‎The Governor also appreciated civil servants in Osun State for their support and commitment to the success of his administration, assuring them that his government would continue to prioritise their welfare.
‎
‎According to him, maintaining cordial relations between government and workers remains essential for effective service delivery and national development.
‎
‎The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, represented by the Zonal Director of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Lagos Office, Mrs. Mienye Badejo, stressed the importance of social dialogue in resolving workplace disputes.
‎
‎He described dialogue as the most effective mechanism for addressing industrial disagreements, sustaining peace in workplaces and promoting economic prosperity.
‎
‎Speaking on the theme of the retreat, “Consolidating Social Dialogue and Industrial Peace for Economic Prosperity,” labour leaders noted that continuous engagement between employers and employees has helped build trust, mutual understanding and cooperation within the public service.
‎
‎They maintained that effective communication remains critical to achieving industrial harmony and improving productivity across government institutions.
‎
‎Earlier in his welcome address, the Osun State Chairman of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council, Mr. Olalekan Adediran, called for the immediate release of local government allocations currently under dispute in the state.
‎
‎Adediran expressed concern that the continued withholding of the funds had adversely hindered grassroots development.
‎
‎The retreat provided a platform for stakeholders in the public service sector to review the progress of trade unionism in Nigeria and explore ways of strengthening industrial relations for national development.
