The call was made by concerned civil rights groups and political stakeholders who argue that the continued detention of the military personnel without public disclosure of charges raises serious constitutional and human rights concerns.

According to reports, the soldiers were arrested following intelligence claims of a planned coup against the Tinubu administration. However, authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities of those involved or provide detailed information on the alleged plot.

Critics say that if the soldiers have committed offences, they should be charged promptly and tried in accordance with military and civil laws. They warn that prolonged detention without transparency could undermine public confidence in democratic governance and the rule of law.

Supporters of the government, on the other hand, insist that national security must take precedence and that ongoing investigations justify the action taken so far.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the Defence Headquarters has issued a formal statement on the matter.
