American rapper Rick Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, has turned himself in to police in Miami Beach, Florida, over allegations that he assaulted a woman at his Star Island residence.

According to the arrest affidavit, the alleged incident occurred on August 28, but was reported to police on September 29. Ross is facing one felony charge of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanour battery charge.

Police alleged that Ross and the woman had been in a relationship for about a year and were living together when the incident occurred. Investigators said the woman accused the rapper of slapping her, striking her several times and restricting her breathing during an argument.

She also alleged that Ross pulled her by the hair, slammed her against a wall and struck her in the face. Police said she sustained a cut to her lip and provided investigators with photographs of injuries and a sworn statement.

Investigators also reviewed surveillance footage from the property as part of the investigation. The affidavit contains allegations from the woman, while Ross has denied wrongdoing and maintains that he is innocent.

Ross voluntarily surrendered to Miami Beach police on Thursday and was later booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre.

He appeared before Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer through Zoom for a bond hearing. The judge set bond at $4,000 on the strangulation-related battery charge and $1,000 on the misdemeanor battery charge, bringing the total to $5,000.

Ross subsequently posted bond and was released. As part of his release conditions, he was ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with the woman and to stay away from her home, workplace and school.

The rapper was also ordered to surrender firearms and concealed weapons and was prohibited from possessing firearms while the case is pending. His arraignment has been scheduled for October 22, 2026.

Ross’ attorney, Bradley Horenstein, rejected the allegations and urged the public to allow the legal process to take its course.
