Announcing the decision, Cornelius Ojelabi, who also chairs the forum of APC state chairmen, said her emergence followed extensive consultations and a thorough selection process within the party.

According to Ojelabi, the process evaluated factors such as competence, leadership ability, grassroots acceptance, loyalty to the party, and the capacity to contribute meaningfully to the development of Lagos State.

He explained that Sonayon-James stood out because of her dedication to service, commitment to the APC, and proven leadership record in both public and private sectors.

Ojelabi expressed confidence that the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket possesses the experience and vision required to sustain the development agenda of Lagos State.

“A vote for the party represents a vote for continuity, prosperity, inclusive growth, and a greater Lagos,” he stated while urging residents to support the APC in the forthcoming election.

Sonayon-James is widely recognised as a governance and development professional with more than 15 years of experience across public policy, institutional development, sustainability, risk governance, stakeholder engagement, and community development.

She previously served as supervisor for agriculture and social services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area, where she was involved in grassroots governance and social development initiatives.

Political observers say her selection reflects the APC’s effort to project youth inclusion, gender representation, and administrative competence ahead of the Lagos governorship election.

The unveiling of the deputy governorship candidate is expected to further energise the APC campaign structure as political activities intensify across the state.

The Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket will now focus on consolidating support across Lagos communities while promoting the party’s message of continuity and development.
