The All Progressives Congress, APC, has reportedly cleared 30 governors, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alongside several other political figures, for its primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party sources disclosed that the clearance followed a large-scale screening exercise involving nearly 3,000 aspirants across various elective positions nationwide.

The development comes as internal disagreements, petitions, and unresolved disputes continue to delay the official release of the party’s screening report.

According to insiders within the All Progressives Congress, the party screened approximately 2,980 aspirants for multiple offices, including:

  • One presidential ticket
  • 28 governorship positions
  • 109 Senate seats
  • 360 House of Representatives seats
  • 991 state assembly positions

Despite the scale of the exercise, the final list of cleared candidates has not yet been made public, sparking speculation within political circles.

Officials attributed the delay to a surge of petitions filed against aspirants by various screening panels, which must be reviewed before final decisions are announced.

A senior party source explained that even though the original deadline of May 13 was set for publication, the leadership is still working through complaints to avoid errors and legal disputes.

Party insiders confirmed that no sitting governor has been disqualified, dismissing reports suggesting that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara had been excluded from the process.

Instead, sources insisted that governors remain strongly protected within the party’s internal structure, with some receiving what was described as “automatic clearance.”

However, the controversy surrounding the screening process has intensified discussions about whether the APC will rely on consensus arrangements or conduct direct primaries in accordance with the Electoral Act.

While consensus is being encouraged to reduce internal conflict, resistance from several aspirants is already emerging, raising fears of possible court cases and post-primary disputes.

One party official noted that the leadership is trying to avoid situations that could trigger defections or prolonged litigation ahead of the 2027 elections.

In Oyo State, former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu is reportedly facing uncertainty over his clearance status, while former Oyo State Secretary to the Government, Sarafadeen Alli, has allegedly secured party backing.

Similarly, in Ogun State, tensions remain unresolved over the senatorial ticket battle between Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Gbenga Daniel.

Party sources said efforts to reach a consensus between both camps have failed so far, with Daniel reportedly unwilling to accept the arrangement being pushed by party leadership.

The dispute reflects a wider trend across several states where powerful political blocs are clashing over candidate selection ahead of the primaries.

The APC leadership is currently reviewing multiple petitions submitted during the screening exercise. In some cases, individual panels reportedly received up to 10 complaints against aspirants, all of which must be examined on their merit.

A senior official stressed that the process is designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and compliance with internal party guidelines.

Despite growing tensions, party insiders maintain that the screening exercise is proceeding within legal and procedural frameworks, even as pressure mounts for the immediate release of the final list.

As the APC prepares for one of its most critical election cycles, the delay in releasing screening results and disputes over consensus arrangements highlight deepening internal divisions.

While the party insists that no governor has been dropped and that all complaints are being fairly addressed, uncertainty continues to build among aspirants awaiting final confirmation ahead of the 2027 primaries.
