Senate President Godswill Akpabio has defended the administration of President Bola Tinubu amid growing concerns over the nation’s economic challenges, insisting that the government never promised Nigerians instant solutions or miracles.
Speaking during the inauguration of a newly completed seven-kilometre road and bridge project in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Akpabio said the current administration remains focused on implementing a long-term development strategy aimed at achieving sustainable national progress.
His remarks come as many Nigerians continue to grapple with rising living costs, inflationary pressures, and economic adjustments linked to major government reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and other fiscal measures introduced since the administration assumed office.

According to the Senate President, the government’s commitment from the beginning was to pursue structured and deliberate reforms capable of producing lasting benefits rather than short-term gains.

Akpabio explained that the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda was designed to address challenges facing ordinary citizens through systematic policy implementation and infrastructure development.
He noted that the government’s objective was not merely to improve economic indicators but also to ensure that positive changes are reflected in the daily lives of Nigerians.
According to him, progress takes time and requires careful planning, execution, and consistency.
“We did not promise miracles that would appear overnight,” Akpabio said, emphasizing that the administration’s focus remains on delivering measurable and sustainable outcomes.
The Senate President maintained that ongoing projects across various sectors demonstrate the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises despite economic and political pressures.
During a separate project commissioning event in Abuja, Akpabio also praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a “miracle worker” and a results-oriented administrator.
Representing President Tinubu at the inauguration of the newly constructed Airport Road, also known as Bill Clinton Drive, connecting to the Tungan Madaki community, Akpabio commended the minister for his pace of infrastructure delivery within the FCT.
He remarked that it was unprecedented for a minister to schedule project commissioning activities for an entire month, describing the development as evidence of effective governance.
Akpabio also expressed confidence in the quality of the road construction, noting that the contractor involved had previously executed projects during his tenure as governor and delivered durable infrastructure.
According to him, the road is expected to serve residents for decades without significant deterioration.
The Senate President credited President Tinubu for appointing Wike to oversee the affairs of the FCT, arguing that the decision has resulted in visible transformation across the capital city.
He further stated that despite criticism from some quarters, both Tinubu and Wike have remained focused on delivering infrastructure projects and implementing policies aimed at improving public services.
The comments underscore the administration’s continued effort to highlight infrastructure development as a key achievement of its governance agenda while defending economic reforms that have generated both support and criticism among Nigerians.
As the government enters its third year in office, officials continue to argue that ongoing projects and policy initiatives will ultimately produce long-term benefits for citizens and strengthen the country’s economic foundation.
