Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), operating under the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), have jointly endorsed major party programmes following a prolonged meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party. The closed-door engagement, which lasted more than four hours on Wednesday night, was led by the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
The meeting marked a significant moment for the party as it prepares for a new cycle of internal activities, including congresses and a national convention. At the end of deliberations, the governors expressed collective support for the party’s proposed timetable and institutional framework already approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the PGF, Senator Hope Uzodimma, read a communiqué detailing the resolutions reached. He confirmed that the forum reviewed and endorsed plans for ward, local government, state, zonal congresses and the eventual national convention, describing them as critical to strengthening internal democracy within the party.
APC Pushes Digital Membership and Youth Inclusion
A major highlight of the meeting was the endorsement of the ongoing national electronic registration and digital membership update exercise. According to the communiqué, the governors commended the APC leadership for driving the initiative, noting that it has already led to noticeable growth in party membership across states, with increased participation among young Nigerians.
The forum also welcomed the integration of National Identity Number (NIN) verification into the registration process. Governors agreed that the move would enhance data-driven planning, improve demographic analysis and strengthen grassroots engagement across communities nationwide.
The PGF reaffirmed its collective commitment to deepening internal democracy and building stronger party structures. Emphasis was placed on reforms that promote transparency, accountability and inclusiveness across all levels of the federation, including states not currently governed by the APC.
Financial accountability featured prominently in the discussions. The governors stressed the importance of transparent and coordinated financial management in the conduct of congresses and conventions. They noted that consistent financial practices would help ensure fairness, credibility and trust in the party’s internal processes.
Beyond administrative matters, the communiqué highlighted the need for party unity and internal harmony. The governors urged responsible leadership communication and collective discipline, stressing that these elements are essential to boosting public confidence in the APC’s democratic culture.
The forum also announced plans for a series of strategic engagements and state visits aimed at reinforcing grassroots structures and strengthening party cohesion. These visits are expected to support progressive governance across the federation, with Taraba State identified as the first stop.
In a symbolic move, the PGF formally welcomed the governors of Taraba and Plateau states into the forum. The governors reaffirmed their resolve to work closely with the APC leadership to advance national development, democratic consolidation and people-centred governance.
Those in attendance included governors from Kebbi, Taraba, Plateau, Edo, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Niger, Delta, Sokoto, Lagos and Akwa Ibom states. Governors of Katsina, Borno and Gombe states were represented by their deputies.
The meeting ended with the governors expressing appreciation to the APC National Chairman, National Secretary and members of the NWC for what they described as constructive engagement. They pledged continued collaboration to deliver a credible, transparent and unifying congress and convention process in the interest of Nigeria’s democratic growth.
