Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following his confirmation as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The meeting came shortly after the ruling party officially unveiled the Tinubu-Shettima presidential ticket during a stakeholders’ gathering held in the nation’s capital.

Shettima’s visit to the State House was aimed at expressing appreciation to the President for retaining him as his running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.

His confirmation brings to an end weeks of speculation over whether President Tinubu would select a different vice-presidential candidate for his re-election bid.

With the decision, the APC will contest the 2027 presidential election with the same ticket that secured victory for the party in the 2023 general election.

Earlier in the day, the President’s Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare, announced that Tinubu had submitted his nomination form to the APC National Working Committee (NWC).

According to Dare, the President emerged as the party’s sole presidential aspirant for the 2027 election and officially retained Shettima as his running mate.

The announcement formally confirmed the continuation of the political partnership between Tinubu and Shettima as the ruling party prepares for another electoral contest.

During the APC stakeholders’ meeting at the Continental Hotel in Abuja, the nomination documents of both candidates were formally presented to the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.

The forms were submitted on behalf of the President and Vice President by the Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari.

The event was attended by several prominent APC leaders, including governors, members of the National Working Committee, lawmakers from the party’s caucus in the National Assembly and members of the Federal Executive Council.

Also present was Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, alongside other senior party stakeholders who gathered to reaffirm support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.

The confirmation of the joint ticket signals the APC’s intention to maintain continuity in its presidential leadership as preparations for the next electoral cycle gather momentum.
