The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has observed that the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has not personally and publicly confirmed former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Amadi made the remark in a post on X while reacting to reports that the ADC had selected Amaechi as its vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to Amadi, Nigerians are still awaiting a direct announcement from Atiku himself regarding the choice of his running mate.

“@atiku is yet to publicly name @ChibuikeAmaechi as his VP. Maybe he will do so soonest. We wait to hear him say so soonest,” Amadi wrote.

The development follows an earlier announcement by the African Democratic Congress that it had selected Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate on what party leaders described as a “unity and rescue ticket” for the 2027 election.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the decision emerged after extensive consultations within the party and among coalition stakeholders.

The party noted that Amaechi’s selection was influenced by his performance as runner-up in the ADC presidential primaries, as well as his experience as a former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and former Minister of Transportation.

While the ADC leadership has publicly announced the Atiku–Amaechi ticket, Amadi’s comment highlights that Atiku has yet to personally make a public declaration confirming Amaechi as his vice-presidential choice.

As political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum, attention is now focused on whether Atiku will formally endorse the party’s announcement and present Amaechi as his running mate in a public statement or event.
