BREAKING: Defense Minister Matawalle Seeks Court Order to Halt Media Reports on Alleged Terrorist Links

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle, has approached the Kano State High Court seeking an injunction to restrain several media outlets from publishing reports linking him to terrorist organizations. The legal action, filed on Wednesday and registered as Case No. 4, resulted in the court granting a temporary restraining order.

The suit names Sahara Reporters, Mikiya, Omoyele Sowore, and a number of other Nigerian media platforms as defendants. Matawalle argues that recent publications alleging his involvement with terrorist groups are defamatory, baseless, and capable of causing irreparable harm to his public image.

The legal move comes amid heightened public debate following circulating allegations that the minister had maintained associations with certain terrorist elements — claims that intensified after former Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru was replaced by General Christopher Musa.

In his filing, Matawalle urged the court to compel the named media organisations to halt further dissemination of what he describes as falsehoods, stressing that the spread of unverified information poses a risk to national cohesion and threatens to tarnish his reputation.
