The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to stop former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

In its ruling, the court held that Jonathan remains eligible to contest for the presidency, relying on earlier judgments delivered by the Federal High Court in Yenagoa and the Court of Appeal.

The case had challenged Jonathan’s constitutional eligibility to seek another term in office following his previous tenure as president. However, the Abuja court affirmed that the matter had already been addressed in prior judicial decisions.

The ruling is expected to reignite political discussions over Jonathan’s possible return to active presidential politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Goodluck Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 after completing the tenure of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and later winning the 2011 presidential election.
