Popular Nollywood actor and Lagos lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Surulere Constituency I ahead of the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election.

Elliot was defeated by Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, the immediate past Special Adviser on Housing to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The outcome ends Elliot’s bid to secure another term in the Lagos State House of Assembly after years of representing the constituency under the APC platform.

The primary election, conducted amid heightened political tension within the party, reportedly witnessed strong backing for Odunuga-Bakare from influential APC stakeholders in Lagos.

Desmond Elliot, who first won election into the Lagos Assembly in 2015, had served multiple terms representing Surulere Constituency I and remained one of the most recognizable faces in the state legislature due to his entertainment background.

Political observers say the result reflects ongoing power realignments within the Lagos APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Odunuga-Bakare is expected to fly the party’s flag for the constituency in the next election cycle.
