The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region, with both individuals isolated as authorities await laboratory test results.

The health agency said investigations were ongoing to determine whether the individuals had contracted the virus. It also stressed that the cases remain suspected and should not be treated as confirmed Ebola infections until laboratory tests establish their status.

The NCDC is also identifying and listing people who may have had contact with the suspected cases. The exercise is part of efforts to monitor possible exposure and prevent further transmission if the infections are confirmed.
The development comes amid reports that Nigeria confirmed an Ebola case on October 20, 2026, involving a 42-year-old Swiss woman who reportedly arrived in the country from Uganda. She was isolated and treated by Nigerian health workers before being evacuated to Switzerland aboard a medical aircraft on Monday. Her husband, identified as a close contact, was also evacuated.
The latest suspected cases have renewed attention on Nigeria’s disease surveillance and emergency response systems. However, the two individuals should not be described as Ebola-positive unless the ongoing laboratory investigations confirm infection.
The NCDC is expected to provide further updates as test results and investigations become available.
