The family of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has called for the postponement of the DNA test scheduled for October 31, 2026, to determine the paternity of Liam, the singer’s son, citing concerns over transparency and the handling of biological samples.

The family, in a statement issued on Friday by its head, Samuel Aloba, questioned the proposed transportation of biological specimens from Lagos to an unidentified laboratory in the United States, demanding further clarification on the arrangements before the examination proceeds.

The Aloba family specifically requested clarification on whether the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre would conduct the analysis or merely facilitate the transportation of the samples to the US laboratory. It also insisted that any alteration to the court-approved testing arrangement should receive appropriate judicial clarification.

“The Aloba family respectfully calls for the postponement of the DNA examination scheduled for 31 October 2026, pending adequate clarification of the outstanding concerns,” the statement read.

The family further demanded the full name and address of the proposed US laboratory, its accreditation status, technical capabilities and details of the experts who would be responsible for handling and analysing the samples.

It also called for proper documentation of the entire process, including sample collection, labelling, preservation, transportation and examination, to ensure that the biological specimens are protected against possible contamination, substitution or mishandling.

However, the family clarified that its concerns should not be interpreted as an allegation that the proposed DNA examination had been compromised.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the family is not presenting the possibility of manipulation as a fact, nor is it asserting that the proposed examination has already been compromised,” the statement added.

Despite its reservations, the Aloba family maintained that it supports scientific testing to establish Liam’s paternity but insisted that the process must be transparent, credible and independently verifiable.

Meanwhile, the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court has adjourned the paternity proceedings until November 16, 2026, and appointed a new officer to address concerns surrounding the DNA testing arrangements.

The court had earlier approved three testing centres, comprising two laboratories in the United Kingdom and one in the United States.

The latest development represents another turn in the prolonged paternity dispute following Mohbad’s death, with the family insisting that all outstanding concerns must be addressed to ensure confidence in the eventual DNA test results.
