The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports claiming it is investigating the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, over alleged visa racketeering, describing the reports as false and misleading.

The anti-graft agency clarified that while investigations into alleged visa fraud involving some immigration officers are ongoing, Nandap is not connected to any of the cases.

EFCC Clears Kemi Nandap of Visa Racketeering Investigation

In a statement issued on Monday, the EFCC explained that there are existing cases involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service before the Federal High Court.

However, the commission stressed that reports suggesting the Immigration Comptroller-General is under investigation are inaccurate.

According to the EFCC, the allegations linking Nandap to visa fraud investigations are baseless and should be disregarded.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is aware of reports in the media about alleged visa racketeering involving some officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, especially subtle insinuations about assumed investigation of the Comptroller General of the Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap.

“The Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG.”

Visa Fraud Cases Against Immigration Officers Continue

The EFCC disclosed that investigations into alleged visa fraud involving some immigration personnel are still ongoing, with cases already pending before the Federal High Court.

The commission also revealed that additional officers could face prosecution as investigations progress.

According to the anti-corruption agency, the ongoing probe is focused solely on officers suspected of engaging in fraudulent visa-related activities and does not involve the leadership of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The commission stated:

“There are subsisting cases of alleged visa fraud against some immigration officers at the Federal High Court. Further investigations are ongoing with the possibility that more NIS officers could be arraigned for alleged fraudulent practices in the near future.”

Immigration Comptroller-General Not Linked to Investigation

The EFCC emphasized that Kemi Nandap is not remotely connected to any of the ongoing investigations.

The agency reiterated that the Comptroller-General remains outside the scope of the visa fraud cases currently being handled.

It urged the public and media organisations to avoid spreading unverified reports capable of misleading Nigerians.

EFCC Urges Media to Verify Information

The commission called on journalists and media organisations to always seek clarification before publishing reports relating to its activities.

According to the EFCC, proper verification will help prevent the circulation of false information and ensure accurate reporting of ongoing investigations.

The agency maintained that while it remains committed to prosecuting public officials and officers involved in corrupt practices, the Immigration Comptroller-General is not under investigation, contrary to reports circulating online.
