ABUJA – Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to serving only one four-year term if elected president in the 2027 general election, insisting that four years would be sufficient to lay the foundation for Nigeria’s transformation.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, the former Anambra State governor dismissed suggestions that his single-term promise was merely an election strategy, maintaining that he had no intention of remaining in office beyond four years. “I don’t need more than four years to show the path Nigeria will take. I will serve for four years—full stop. If you want me, it’s four years, full stop—not a day more,” Obi declared.

Obi also confirmed that he and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, had signed a written agreement committing him to a single four-year term if elected. He stressed that the “gentlemen’s agreement” would be honoured, adding that his administration would focus on setting Nigeria on a sustainable path to development within the constitutional tenure.

Kwankwaso had earlier reaffirmed his confidence in Obi’s commitment, describing him as a man of integrity who would not renege on the agreement. The NDC vice-presidential candidate disclosed that both leaders signed separate agreements—one with the party and another between themselves—formalising the one-term arrangement ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
