Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has opened up about the personal sacrifices she made while producing her blockbuster movie, Behind The Scenes, revealing that she put virtually every aspect of her personal life on hold to ensure the project’s success.

The award-winning filmmaker disclosed this during an appearance on Bella Naija, where she reflected on the intense commitment and discipline required to deliver the film, which has reportedly grossed over ₦2.7 billion at the box office.

According to Akindele, the production demanded her complete attention, leaving little room for social activities, self-care or personal engagements.

Akindele explained that she deliberately withdrew from social life throughout the production period, choosing instead to devote all her energy to the project.

She revealed that she rarely had time for personal grooming, except when attending major public events, and stayed away from parties and social visits.

“What I do differently to achieve this level of success is lots of work. When I say ‘a lot of work,’ it means giving your all,” she said.

“I abandoned myself for work; I didn’t even make my hair, except when I am going on the red carpet or somewhere important. I don’t attend parties, I don’t go to greet people at home, I quit everything. I’m neck-deep in work; I sacrifice my time for it.”

The actress added that she is only now beginning to relax and focus on herself after completing the demanding production schedule.

“It’s now that I am relaxed, feeling fresh, doing the skincare,” she added.

Akindele said the remarkable commercial success of the movie came after months of dedication, long working hours and personal sacrifices.

According to her, the production process involved countless sleepless nights, missed meals and an unwavering commitment to delivering a quality film.

“It was a lot of sacrifice, sleepless nights, forgetting to eat, giving my all,” she said.

The filmmaker noted that her approach to filmmaking has always been rooted in discipline and total commitment, which she believes has contributed significantly to her achievements in the Nigerian film industry.

In an earlier post shared on her Instagram page, Akindele reflected on the journey that led to the success of Behind The Scenes, stressing that her accomplishments were not achieved overnight.

She explained that the project was the result of continuous learning, strategic planning and resilience.

According to the actress, she remained committed to improving her craft by constantly reassessing her goals, refining her strategies and executing her plans with determination.

Akindele also highlighted the role of faith throughout her journey, noting that prayer, persistence and the willingness to adapt were essential to turning her vision into reality.
