The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed Senator Adeola Olamilekan as its candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, dismissing the claim by Mr Abayomi Hunye to the party’s ticket.

APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made the position known in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, describing Hunye as an “imposter” who is currently suspended from the party. Basiru said the APC had concluded its governorship primary, producing Adeola as its candidate with Balogun Abiodun as running mate, and that their details had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

Basiru said Hunye was suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area. He explained that the suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and subsequently communicated to the party’s national headquarters. According to him, the action followed allegations of anti-party activities and conduct considered harmful to the unity and image of the APC.

“Hunye is not a member of the APC; in good standing, he was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026; he is an imposter currently on suspension,” Basiru said.

The national secretary described Hunye’s claim to the governorship ticket as “completely false, unauthorised, and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public,” insisting that Adeola remains the party’s duly nominated candidate.

“We reiterate that following the validly conducted primary election of the APC, the duly nominated and elected governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election is Senator Adeola Olamilekan, with his running mate being Balogun Abiodun,” he stated.

Basiru added that the candidates’ details had been successfully uploaded to the INEC portal and that acknowledgement slips had been issued.

The APC consequently warned individuals, groups and organisations against conducting political or financial transactions with Hunye while he presents himself as an APC candidate.

“Any person, group or organisation that associates, collaborates or transacts any political business with Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at their own risk,” Basiru warned.

He urged APC members and supporters in Ogun State to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing that the party’s position on its 2027 governorship ticket remains unchanged.
