‎Residents of Osogbo are counting their losses following a heavy downpour accompanied by a violent storm that swept through the city and its environs, causing widespread destruction and disruption.

‎The rainstorm, which lasted for more than an hour on Saturday night, reportedly destroyed several buildings and damaged properties across affected areas, leaving many families in distress.

‎In one of the most dramatic incidents, an unidentified driver of a Coca-Cola truck was trapped for about an hour after a billboard collapsed onto his vehicle.

‎The truck was said to be heading from the Gbongan–Ibadan road around 8 p.m. when the billboard, located in Aregbe area, suddenly fell during the storm.

‎Eyewitnesses revealed that it took the combined efforts of residents to rescue the driver from the wreckage.

‎Reacting to the incident, the Osun State gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, expressed deep concern and solidarity with residents affected by the disaster.

‎In a statement shared via his official X handle, Salaam sympathised with families whose homes, properties, and livelihoods were impacted, describing the situation as a difficult period for many households. He stressed the need for unity and compassion, urging residents to remain calm and vigilant in the face of the crisis.

‎The ADC flagbearer also called on citizens to look out for one another, particularly the elderly, children, and other vulnerable groups who may be most at risk.

‎He encouraged residents to prioritise safety while extending support to neighbours in distress, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility and resilience.

‎Salaam urged residents to stay safe and remain hopeful as the city begins to recover from the aftermath of the devastating downpour.
