The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of betrayal and political deception, claiming he abandoned the party’s collective mandate after securing power on its platform.
In a statement issued on Thursday, PDP leaders in the state alleged that Governor Fubara made firm commitments to uphold party supremacy and internal agreements but later acted contrary to those assurances. The party claimed that Fubara’s recent political moves, including his realignment with forces outside the PDP, amounted to a breach of trust and an attempt to weaken the party’s structure in Rivers State.

According to the PDP, the governor benefited from the party’s mobilisation, resources, and goodwill during the 2023 governorship election, only to later distance himself from party organs and loyal members. Party officials said repeated efforts to engage the governor and resolve internal disputes were allegedly ignored.
“This is not just about personal ambition; it is about the betrayal of a party and the people who stood by him,” a senior party source said, adding that the PDP would explore all lawful and political options to protect its interests in the state.
The party further accused the governor of fostering divisions within the PDP and using state power to sideline party leaders who disagreed with his current political direction.
However, Governor Fubara has previously denied allegations of disloyalty, insisting that his actions are guided by the interest of Rivers people and the need for stable governance. He has also maintained that he remains committed to democratic principles and inclusive leadership.
The development deepens the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State and underscores the widening rift within the PDP, raising fresh questions about party cohesion ahead of future elections.
