The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared an end to his prolonged political feud with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, saying both leaders have resolved their differences and are now working together in the interest of the state. Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Wike said the political crisis had caused significant setbacks for Rivers State, describing the state as the biggest loser in the conflict. He urged supporters of both camps to embrace reconciliation and avoid actions capable of reigniting tensions.

The former Rivers governor acknowledged that mistakes were made during the power struggle but stressed that both sides had realised the dispute was detrimental to the state’s development. He called on residents and political stakeholders to support the peace process rather than question the reconciliation. Wike noted that the prolonged conflict affected governance and political stability, insisting that lasting peace would enable the government to focus on delivering development.

He also disclosed that a committee had been established to engage political stakeholders across the state and strengthen the reconciliation process, adding that broad political alliances remained essential for electoral success and sustainable governance.

Reflecting on the crisis, Wike said Governor Fubara’s attempt to build an independent political structure shortly after assuming office contributed to the breakdown in their relationship. He noted that the reconciliation became possible through compromise, sacrifice and forgiveness, adding that he bore no personal grudge against the governor.

Wike also praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, describing it as beneficial to both Rivers State and Nigeria. Expressing optimism about the state’s future, he said the restoration of peace would allow Fubara to concentrate fully on governance and accelerate development, while preventing political opportunists from exploiting divisions within the state.
