Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election held on Monday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Amaechi described the results announced by the party as “concocted,” alleging that the exercise was marred by widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement.

“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” Amaechi stated.

The former minister said he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primary if the process was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

“I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word,” he said.

Amaechi alleged that a significant number of ADC members across the country were denied the opportunity to participate in the voting process.

According to him, the scale of the alleged exclusion undermines the credibility and legitimacy of the primary election.

“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he said.

He further questioned the moral standing of the ADC if it failed to uphold democratic standards internally.

“Then what makes us different from the others?” he added.

Rising Tension Within ADC

Amaechi’s rejection of the primary outcome is expected to increase tensions within the ADC as the party moves toward finalising its preparations for the 2027 general election.

Political observers say the dispute could trigger internal negotiations, legal challenges, or further divisions within the opposition party.

As of the time of filing this report, the ADC leadership had not officially responded to Amaechi’s allegations or comments regarding the conduct of the primary election.
