Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has said she would have greater control in a relationship if she earned significantly more money than her partner.

The Rhythm and Blues singer made the remark during an episode of the Wahala podcast on Tuesday while discussing relationships, financial responsibilities and the dynamics that can arise when partners have significant differences in income.

Ayra Starr explained that having a stronger financial position would naturally give her more influence in the relationship. However, she maintained that even if she were wealthier than her partner, she would still expect him to play the role of a financial provider.

“If I date a man who I am richer than, I will control him. But even if I am richer, he will still be providing, and I won’t let him know I have a lot of money,” she said.

The singer’s comments have sparked discussions about money, gender roles and financial power in relationships, particularly over whether earning more should give one partner greater influence and whether men should retain financial responsibilities regardless of their partner’s income.
