The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has relaxed its restrictions on SIM swapping and email changes for candidates, allowing those who have lost access to their registered phone numbers or email accounts to update their details through a controlled process. The new policy takes effect on Monday, September 21, 2026, according to the board.
JAMB’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the decision followed improvements in identity authentication and biometric verification systems. The board explained that the revised policy is intended to assist genuine candidates while protecting their records against impersonation, fraud and unauthorised changes.

Under the new guidelines, candidates can access the SIM swap and/or email change service only once. The service will be available at designated JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and applicable state offices. Applicants must pay the prescribed fee and provide a duly executed court affidavit, scanned and ready for upload.

To begin the process, candidates must log into their JAMB e-Facility profile, select the SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment option and complete payment. They must then visit an approved centre, undergo biometric verification, select the details they wish to change, enter their new phone number or email address and upload the required affidavit. A confirmation message will appear once the update is successful.
JAMB urged candidates to use the facility only for genuine cases and avoid unauthorised agents or outlets. The board said the revised procedure is designed to prevent legitimate candidates from facing unnecessary difficulties during UTME and admission-related processes while maintaining the security of their personal information.
